PROJECT

Singleton Safer Roads Project LiDAR Survey

CLIENT

David Cant Surveyors (GHD)

DATE

November 2018

SCOPE

A local council received funding from Transport for NSW’s Safer Roads programme for the design and implementation of 4 road safety projects. 20km of the road was required to be surveyed; the following information is to be contained in the survey:

●   Investigation and location of existing traffic facilities i.e. line marking, signage, guideposts etc.
●   Items likely to affect installation of any proposed measures i.e. driveways, culverts, power poles etc.
●   The survey is to be undertaken with appropriate traffic control if required and if required is to be in accordance with RMS “Traffic Control at Work Sites Manual”
●   100mm Accuracy

SOLUTION

●   Use Nextcore UAV LiDAR as survey capture
●   Fly from 10 safe locations across the length of the site
●   Reduce static observations from survey grade base & LiDAR base against CORS
●   Survey connection to state survey marks & RTK GPS survey QC points across entire job length
●   Feature extraction from LiDAR point cloud
●   Survey features extracted in accurate 3D space

RESULT

●   20km of Survey Accurate data captured in 2 days
●   Feature extracted & drafted in 4 days (compiled hours)
●   Delivered in 3 days from capture
●   Project delivery in 3D platforms as well as AUTOCAD in survey layers

Case Study – Colour Run

PROJECT

Colour Run 2014 Event Filming in Sydney Olympic Park

CLIENT

Colour Run Australia / 2C Films

DATE

2014

SCOPE

Use UAV equipment to capture race elements during event.

SOLUTION

Airsight deployed two crews of two to multiple roving locations distributed evenly around the racecourse during the half day event, using multiple high res camera drones.

RESULT

Airsight crews were deployed with all appropriate approvals and with Sydney Olympic Park approval to film and operate the event successfully.

Case Study – AORC Off Road Rally

PROJECT

AORC Coffs Harbour NSW and Lockyer Valley QLD

CLIENT

Australian Off Road Rally Championship (AORC)

DATE

2013/14

SCOPE

Use UAV equipment to capture race elements during both three day events.

SOLUTION

Airsight deployed three crews of two to multiple roving locations distributed evenly around the race course.

RESULT

The race course was spread over 250 Ha and required each crew to move to different locations multiple times each 12-hour day. All footage was captured in 1080p and 4k and packages ready for post production.

Case Study – Traffic Surveillance and Monitoring

PROJECT

RMS Road Traffic Survey

CLIENT

NSW Roads & Maritime Service

DATE

2015/16

SCOPE

To provide elevated surveillance and monitoring of critical road intersections during periods of high traffic over a two week period.

SOLUTION

Airsight deployed three crews of two to each location. Each crew operated during two 2-hour periods each day above the intersections to capture 1.5 hours of continuous footage of the intersections.

RESULT

All client requirements were met and exceeded.

Case Study – Bridge Inspections

PROJECT

Level 2 Steel Truss Bridge Inspections Using UAVs

CLIENT

Queensland Rail and GHD

DATE

Q2 2016

SCOPE

The client required a detailed level two structural inspections of 13 steel truss bridge between Cairns and Rockhampton in QLD. Bridges ranged from 100m single span up to 700m 8 span bridges.

The client required detailed high resolution imagery of the bridges to enable the contracted engineer to carry out a detailed Level 2 asset inspection.

SOLUTION

Airsight engaged the help of Propeller Aero to use their advanced cloud based asset modeling platform to enable Airsight to capture high quality spatially orientated imagery of the assets, create a detailed point cloud and orientate the images to enable an accurate desktop inspection.

The data was captured in the field then using 4G Telstra internet was uploaded into the cloud where the data was immediately geotagged and processed in Propeller Aero for delivery to the engineers. The data was generally made available between 1-2 days of capture.

RESULT

Within 1 to 2 days of data capture of each bridge Airsight was able to deliver all required data deliverables to the engineers so that they could carry out their respective Level 2 engineering assessments and prepare the reports for the client, without the need for anybody to climb, traverse or access dangerous areas within the rail corridor.

The Leading Edge of Autonomous Drone Technology

HiveUAV combines unmanned aerial vehicles and automated docking stations to help agriculture, industry and emergency services monitor remote locations from the air.

Airsight Australia worked together with Lumina Visual to create this promotional video showcasing the new and exciting technology being developed by HiveUAV.

Hive

The Hive protects the UAV and charges its batteries. Providing a secure, mobile housing to enable operation in remote applications and areas. The key features and functions of the Hive include:

  • Rugged design protecting the UAV from adverse weather conditions.
  • Rapid charging of UAV batteries.
  • Transfer of imagery, sensor data and flight information to a central command centre allowing assessment and analysis with changes in mission plans being completed as necessary.
  • Portable so that it can be located anywhere and repositioned with minimum impact on the user.
  • Connected to solar, mains or vehicle power where applicable to enable operation and charging of batteries.
  • Networking of multiple Hives and UAVs enabling broader reach of UAVs, continuous operation and long-range linear routes moving UAVs from Hive to Hive.

Newcastle Break Wall Change Detection and Monitoring Using UAV’s

Job: To provide a detailed dense point cloud and photorealistic 3D model to be used for change detection.

Challenges: Newcastle Port Corporation needed a way of accurately, reliably and affordably monitoring the change in the Newcastle and Stockton break walls. Airsight Australia and Monteath & Powys collaborated to combine cutting edge UAV mapping technology innovative 3d model software to accurately highlight exactly where changes are occurring in the break wall armour.

Solution: Airsight Australia using their multi-rotor UAV to generate incredibly dense point cloud and 3D model (5mm per point) of both Newcastle and Stockton break walls. Using Monteath & Powys innovative and extensive 3D surveying capabilities they combined the above ground 3D model with the bathymetric data acquired by the Port of Newcastle survey vessel to create detailed and accurate below and above water model of both break walls.

Results: Airsight Australia was able to complete the survey of both break walls in less than 8 hours (4 hours per wall) and completed the post production and reduction of photogrammetry data in under 22 hours.
